Golden Plains Community School is a private, Christian school on the north side of Amarillo serving PK-3rd grade students. We place high priority on caring for students' and families' emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. We are committed to high levels of learning, small class sizes, ample time exploring and learning outside, and time for creative expression throughout the day. Our commitment extends to ALL families regardless of financial means, ensuring access to a robust, top-tier education that serves the whole child and strengthens our community.

Holistic Education
We believe students cannot learn if their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are not met. We partner with physicians, dentists, play therapists, counselors, and pastors to offer holistic care to students and their families.
Rigorous Literacy Instruction
We believe every child has the fundamental right to learn how to read. We offer rigorous, high quality instruction.

Nature Based and Arts Education
We practice hands-on, play-based learning outdoors, minimizing the overuse of screens. We offer regular arts instruction including music, visual arts, and creative writing.
Community and Family Engagement
Golden Plains prioritizes the health and wellbeing of the whole family, and works to help all family members with resources and support. We know a student is strongest when the family is strong. We invite families to take an active part in school decisions and school life.

In my work as a mental health therapist, I’ve seen firsthand how chronic stress and adversity can disrupt a child’s neurodevelopment, impairing their ability to regulate emotions, form relationships, and engage in learning. What Golden Plains Community School is doing is not just admirable—it’s necessary. By prioritizing safety, connection, and consistency within a holistic educational model, they are creating the conditions children need for their brains—and their lives—to heal, grow, and thrive. Just as importantly, they are walking alongside families, offering support, partnership, and resources that strengthen the entire caregiving system. This is what trauma-responsive education looks like in practice.
